Tournament FAQ

What medicals do I need?
-
You need a physical (by an MD or DO-no nurses) on the ISKA paperwork, download here: https://iskaofaz.com
-
You need blood work if you are 16 or older (HIV, Hepatitis B-surface antigen, and Hepatitis C-Antibody) If you have fought in 2024 and are already licensed in mma or muay thai-we will accept that paperwork on USMTA or AZGAMING forms (mma.) Fighting from out of state? If you are already licensed, send us the form and we will get them approved.
-
If you are 36yrs old or older, you will need an EKG with report. Our fight Dr. will also interpret at weigh-ins.
-
All female athletes will have to take a pregnancy test at weigh-ins before the fights. Test will be provided by the commission or promotion at weigh-ins.
**all medicals must be brought to weigh ins. If you’d like to check and make sure they are right, you can email to jenpitbull2@gmail.com ahead of time. NO REFUNDS if medicals are denied at weigh ins (incorrect blood, etc.)
I’m a pro boxer or mma fighter, can I compete?
No, this is strictly an amateur tournament. If the athlete has pro status in ANY combat sport, they are ineligible.
How will you bracket the fighters?
We will be bracketing fighters in groups of 4 (or less if applicable.) Since ISKA does not use the same Class C, Class B, and Class A-we can match fighters into groups more easily. In most cases, brackets will be done with 0-1 fights, 2-4 fights, 5-7 fights, etc. SIGN UP IN THE APPROPRIATE WEIGHT CLASS ON SMOOTHCOMP. We will be putting those fighters into brackets as they fill. Once entered into the software in a group-the fights are matched by the software in a totally unbiased fashion (random.) We will post brackets on Smoothcomp as we go along and will divide into groups of 4 or less after weigh-ins. **FINAL BRACKETS AND ORDER, WILL BE POSTED THE NIGHT BEFORE (AFTER WEIGH INS.) We highly recommend getting a room at the venue.
Do you count smokers, pkbs, mma fights, boxing fights, etc in the consideration for bouts?
Yes, all of that counts. However, some other fights (depending on the type) will be weighted differently.
Will I receive a championship belt if I win?
No. We will be awarding Gold and Silver (nice) medals in the final matches. Since brackets are divided, this is technically not a championship tournament. That may come later depending on the success of our first tournament! This also helps keep costs down for competitors.
What if nobody signs up in my weight class, or skill level?
We will try our best to fill your bracket by reaching out to gyms especially if you sign up early. Signing up early will give you the best shot at finding a matchup. If all fails and we cannot get you a match, you will receive a full refund. We will let you know at least 10 days ahead of weigh ins.
What if I get hurt and/or am sick, can I get a refund?
We will accept Dr. notes on facility paperwork with proof that you were seen in an office. No home Covid tests, etc will be accepted. There are no refunds after August 15.
What if I can’t make the weight that I registered at?
We can change your weight class for free until July 24. From July 25-August 24 you will have to pay $25. to change it. We can’t guarantee that we will find you a bracket, but we will do our best.. NO REFUNDS if you can’t make weight and do not get a fight because of it.
**If you do not make weight at your official weigh-in on August 23, we will allow the competitor one additional opportunity to weigh in again within one hour of the initial weigh-in. Or, we can try to move you into another bracket ($25.) but no refund if we cannot.
Do my coaches have to pay/register?
Yes, all coaches must fill out a registration form. We will give one head coach from every gym (not one per athlete) a free pass. Any assistants, second coach, etc. will have to pay (same price as admission.) Registration and payment link will be available on or before July 24.
How many rings will be going?
Just one…. We will have somewhere between 50-60 fights and we will run them fast. We want to keep it simple for this first one! The morning/early afternoon bouts will be the first round and the late afternoon/evening bouts will be the finals. The staff/athletic commission will break for lunch. Please be patient with us as the day goes on. Start/Finish times will be posted as the event gets closer (and we now how many bouts we have.)
Is there food and/or alcohol?
Yes, the hotel restaurant and bar will be open! If you want anything else, there are tons of places to eat within a mile or two.
Where will we warm up?
We have rented some conference rooms for indoor warmups. If you’d like more space or a private area, bring a canopy and warm up outside (bring sand bags, do not stake down.) There are some grassy areas and a big parking lot.
What equipment will I use?
All athletes will wear headgear with no chin/cheek protection, cloth shinpads, groin protector (males,) mouthpiece, and gloves (either 10oz or 12oz depending on weight class.) Elbows will be allowed with athletes with 5 and over fights (elbow pads.)

What uniform Should I wear to compete?
Athletes are required to wear Muay Thai shorts. We will provide a reversible jersey (blue and red) to fight in.
Who provides equipment?
The athlete will provide their own cloth shin pads, headgear with no chin/cheek protection, groin protection, and mouthpiece. We will provide gloves and elbow pads.
When are weigh-ins and where?
Weigh-ins will be on Friday, August 23 from 12-3pm at Rise Combat Sports, 7131 East Tanque Verde Rd, Tucson AZ 85715. Click here to schedule your appointment.
